From the seven main categories of leadership styles, viz. Authoritative, Autocratic, Democratic, Coaching, Affiliative, Laissez-faire, and Pacesetting style, the one that truly sets out is the ‘Assumed Leadership style’.

What do you mean by Assumed Leadership?

During my Postgraduate diploma in Human Resources, I met a guy, Nimesh, who had the habit of assuming the role of power. He practiced the same habit in our presentation groups as well. Though he didn’t have proper knowledge about the presentation topic, he had the guts to speak.

Where others, including me, would feel shy to share our inputs in the group, fearing being judged by others, Nimesh always looked out for such opportunities and took advantage.

Basically, he always ‘Assumed Leadership’ in the group where others would follow all his commands and he would practically contribute nothing.

Features of Assumed Leadership?

  1. Assuming oneself to be the group leader without any formal voting process,
  2. Commanding other people as per one’s convenience,
  3. Purposefully avoiding decentralization of power,
