Every Time I Dance
A free verse poem on every dancer’s first love
There is an immense amount of nervousness
before I enter the stage.
I try revisiting all the steps
but often stop midway.
I don't want to miss the anchor
announcing my name.
That moment just before I performing on stage
is what every dancer lives for.
But once the music starts
all the nervousness vanishes in the air.
Then it's just me and the song
making sweet rhythmic love.
Our passion goes on and on
transmitting us into a parallel universe of our own
until we are interrupted
by the thundering applause from the audience.
I am pushed out of my reverie
and instantly thank the audience for their love.
My physical being leaves the stage for sure,
but a dancer’s soul remains captivated there forever.
